Sign You Need a New Air Conditioner

As we make our halfway mark through summer, temperatures are still on the rise. With the heat spikes all throughout the U.S. for our 2021 Summer season, it is important that you stay cool and comfortable in your own home. Whether your air conditioner is old or not, there are signs that occur when your unit needs to be replaced. Here at Norwalk Heating and Cooling, we want to tell you what to look for so that you can keep up with your cooling this year.

When you first get an air conditioner, the best part is that cool blast of air that you can feel throughout the room and if you have a smaller home, even the whole house. If you notice however, that your room is feeling warmer than usual, or there is limited air flow but your unit is still running it may be time to start looking for repair or a replacement.  Now, it could just be a clog in your piping, but it still needs to be taken care of before more problems happen.

The second sign we want to mention is the buildup of moisture around your unit. If there is water collecting on the unit itself or dripping down around it then you may have a refrigerant leak. This will cause your unit to underperform and could potentially cause harm to your family. If you leave this issue for too long it could possibly create a breeding ground for mold, and you do not want to deal with that.

If you can hear your ac unit then that is a big indicator that it is time for a new unit. Most AC systems are supposed to omit very little to no sound at all, so if you hear things like grinding, creaking, or squeaking, then it is time for an upgrade. It is important to remember that this is NOT a typical sign of your unit aging, and just like with sounds you should also be wary of smells. If your unit is giving out anything but neutral-smelling air, there could be serious issues with it and it needs immediate attention.

The last sign we want to bring to your attention is having high energy bills. If you have noticed that your energy bills have been a lot higher than normal while running your air, then your unit is working far too hard to cool your home and you should think about replacing it. A properly working AC shouldn't break the bank.

If you notice any of these signs when you are around your air conditioning unit, call us. We have technicians who are trained to fix your unit. If your issue proves to need a new system then you can pick from our variety of high quality heating and cooling products. Norwalk Heating and Cooling is here to keep your family comfortable all year round.
