What Should I Do If My A/C is Not Working?

Can your unit be fixed?

Ohio weather has been pretty unique this summer, bringing in unanticipated storms with abnormally hot weather for June and July, and we know that the heat can complicate HVAC issues. With this in mind, you may want to prepare should you be left without your A/C, as long-term exposure to the heat can cause health complications. Here's what you can do:

Don't Panic

This applies especially to those who are out of power. We know that having no power can be extremely debilitating in 90+ degree weather, so the thought of being without your A/C unit can produce anxiety. This is why it's always best to have a plan before an emergency happens. Write a detailed plan that describes what actions you will take should the worst-case scenario arise. For example, to stay cool, you can: periodically take a dip in your pool or visit a local area that has working power.

Change the Filter

If you have access to power and your A/C is still unresponsive, you may want to change your filter. This is always the first step we advise with any air conditioning problem because it is an easy and preventative measure. There is a good chance your unit is clogged by dirt and debris, so cleaning it, in many cases, can do the trick.
